Director of Bands
Mr. Steven J. Kunka
A native of Whitehouse Station, NJ, Steven J. Kunka is currently the Director of Bands at Hampton High School in Hampton, VA. Mr. Kunka received his high school education from Hunterdon Central High School in Flemington, NJ. He received his Bachelor of Music with an emphasis in Music Education and Applied Percussion from James Madison University.
His percussion teachers include Dr. Michael Overman, Marlon Foster, and the head of JMU’s percussion department, Mr. C. William Rice. While attending James Madison, he participated in Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Symphony and Percussion Ensemble. Mr. Kunka was also actively involved with the James Madison University Marching Royal Dukes. He performed with the band in the 25th Annual New Year's Day Parade in London, England as well as with the Wind Symphony for JMU President Alger's Inauguration. |
